Buying too good to be true price for gadgets in the Philippines a scam?

Low budget or Budget meal price can be a price to pay

In the Philippines, many gadgets that we always buy is low at best, as the Online e commerce and also on marketplaces leads to a deep dark secret.

as I am also interviewing my clients on their laptops and gadgets for repairs and how they got scammed. and how did I fact checked this concerns?
this graph tells the whole concerns, specifically also on a shop that is a trend like Powemac Center on that huge deal, and uses this to lure consumers, as in which its a fake account with no legitimacy as this will hurt the existing legitimate company, and scammers will celebrate.

being one of the most common trend of buy and sell, local and online as 54% are online scams and 46% on local, as scammers will set low price of 500 – 2000 on gadgets and also on laptops from premium at a random low price in Philippine peso range is a bargain, but scams do intend to take this effect as follows.

A. FRP lock/ Icloud / stolen units: units that are stolen or locked by owner often is being sold.

B. High bidders first: a new scam motive or bogus sellers will fool a buyer to meetup, but never came or blocked upon the designated area.

C. Parts missing and hidden issues: a typical scam of fooling buyers that the term ” no issues ” sold for cheap is more viable to be too good to be true.

D. Fooling buyers on warranty and refund: issue persist but the seller will ignore and can do a bad response.

E. Fake page : Copy paste from other post and creates an account on a popular store, or a page of promos that are too good to be true.

Ecommerce/Marketplace

Facebook marketplace is no 1 in this list for many transactions of gadgets at low or negotiated prices, as to what we can tell, many post from different unverified or some dummy accounts, gives a great sip of scam. Treating this social media as a social opportunity for scammers to fool consumers on some gadgets.

ONLINE TRANSACTIONS
On which buyers will transact a scammer to post a picture and description of a laptop, either stolen from other post, or already sold, whereas scammers will utilize a more professional approach of trust to the buyer as legitimate with proof of id and shipping, as buyers will use an online payment or money transfer on that said trust, but later on the day of shipment, the scammer will fool the buyer and blocked, or not responding to the said deal. This indicates that the money transferred is already gone to the scammer.

This partakes of Filipinos getting scammed for responding too quickly to the scammer’s demands, and also can be a threat.

How to prevent this problems are the following

  1. Legitimacy – look for a verified check or on e shopping platforms that has a mall icon on every product, shopee mall or lazmall as an example.
  2. Test before you buy – don’t rush and tech the unit, if the unit is good with no flaws, go for it, if there is an issue consider negotiate or walk away.
  3. Cash on delivery – the safest way to transact is COD, if the scammer forces to do a cash transaction online, refuse and leave the chat.
  4. Legit checking – this will provide peace of mind that the community will say their feedback and if it’s legit.
  5. Compare prices – do note that lowest price is also not the best, if the price is too low or less than a bargain, ask the seller a video in real time, and an actual photo on the gadget.

Pro tip: Don’t buy too good to be true price on gadgets, as a consumer advise, do not fall for scams, and always check if its legit. Also don’t get scammed
